I am a massage therapist in training. My casestudy is a 45 year old white female, diagnosed with fibromyalgia 12 years ago. She has 3 active children, a husband, a full time job. We have explored where to massage, what sort of pressure to use to help relieve the pain, when the best time to massage, etc. Some things I have learned is that each time we have a session it is different, often due to her stress level. Deep tissue massage can result in relief, and once resulted in her vomiting. We concluded this was a result of moving too many toxins in the body at too fast a rate. On that day, her stress level was tremendous along with being tired. I have discovered a tremendous book written by a doctor with fibro. It's under $20.00. Name: FIBROMYALGIA & CHRONIC MYOFASCIAL PAIN SYNDROME by Devin Starlanyl and Mary Ellen Copeland. Keep a positive attitude. Exercise as much as you can. Keep a sense of humor. Have a positive support system. It's OK to commiserate; however find someone who can say that's enough after awhile and bring your thinking into a positive focus. Best wishes. Sondra Knowlton
