Sam
Hello, I am a 32 yr old female with FBM. My original doctor, who underwent complete training for this disease, prescribed a drug called Amitriptyline, also known as Elavil. He also recommeded a natural supplement (over the counter) called Sam-e. These two medications have worked miracles for me. I was unable to sleep throughout a night. Without fail, I would wake at 2-3a.m., in extreme pain and numbness. While taking the medication as directed, I was sleeping a full night, or if I woke, the pain was much more manageable and I was able to fall back asleep fairly quickly. Unfortunatly, the Amitriptyline caused severe heartburn, thus I've had to discontinue it. However, I continue to take Sam-e 2 times a day and it helps with my symtoms. Your doctor may be trying to enable you to sleep a full night, without rising, because rest is so very important for FBM suffers. Without complete rest thru the night, fatigue will set in very fast, and for me, it became harder & harder to catch up in my rest. I would ask your doctor about Amitriptyline and Sam-e. Side effects vary, so you may very well be very happy with your results. Hope this helps and best of luck.
