I also have this crappy disorder and your doctor is right about the sleep. If you do not sleep soundly your pain will only get worse, exercise moderately 5 days a week and swimming is very good for it also. If you sleep good, it lessens the pain. I have had it for 10 years and it does not get better, but it is manageable if you get proper sleep and good exercise habits. Hope this helps.
