Yes, I have costochondritis and have learned to live with it because it comes and goes. It is an inflammation of the tissue that holds the ribs to the breastbone. Any strain, exercise or just a simple stretch can irritate this area and cause it to swell. I had broken ribs and a cracked sternom that caused my problems because this area is now weak. Apply a heating pad, hot moist towels or warm bath for 15 minutes every hour for eight hours and take over the counter ibuprofen or acetominophen. I had my doctor Rx 600mg of prescription Motrin that I take at onset and then two more times during the day for a total of 1800 mg/day. This helps and the pain subsides in about 2-3 days. In the meanwhile I am careful not to lift, exercise, etc... Good Luck!! I will say that over the past five years I have had less flare ups so this is positive!
