I was diagnosed with PCOS in 1982, but at that time there wasn't much known. I have just recently been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. After going through the diabetes classes with a dietitian it is all related. PCOS causes an incomplete passageway between your blood stream and your cells. This is called insulin resistance and if left untreated it will cause Type 2 diabetes. It can also cause infertility. I haven't done much research on that part of the PCOS, but the insulin resistance and hirtsuism I have. My best suggestion is to find a good dietitian or someone in your area doing research on PCOS. There are some very knowledgable people out there. There is a support group at www.pcosupport.org. Good luck, there are quite a few resources out there. It isn't curable, but it sure can be livable. If you take care of yourself you can and will live a long time.
