diverticulosis

I also have been diagnosed, although speculative. I have not undergone formal testing. I have had two episodes of being hit with unbearable pain, (right next to childbirth), as well as the same symptoms you described following these episodes. My physician advised that the horrible lower back pain, etc. had nothing to do with diverticulosis. I completely disagree. As you probably know, a high fiber diet, consistent proper nutrition and plenty of water, are the key factors involved in maintaining this condition in a reasonable fashion. In addition, lack of fiber, etc. historically, is the primary reason this condition develops in the first place. In addition, as I understand, diverticulosis is hereditary. My Mother also has the condition. The way in which I was able to combat the back pain and associated lower left abdominal pain was initiating the daily use of Metamucil, with apple juice. Once ongoing regularity developed, the back pain and so forth completely disappeared. I would also like to add that the apple juice, I believe, is the key with the Metamucil. I have tried water, orange juice, etc., and none of these fluid options did what I needed it to do. Daily fluid intake, (water preferably), is of course of importance for obvious reasons. This is a very painful condition, which can result in emergency surgery, and is not to be taken lightly. Typically, after two attacks of this, surgery is recommended.
