it is a chromosome/gene disorder. It has similar symptoms to hayfever - mixed with a bee sting like reaction on the skin when scratched/touched....so you are literally allurgic to being touched.... I have this - and used to have asthma as well-another "allergy" disease. My dermographi was treated with Dimotane LA tablets(brompheniramine) - and found this site while looking for something new-as that is no longer made... just been given clarityn(loratadine)and had side effects - drowsiness, nausea, light headeadness, loss of balance...and it didnt even stop the itching !
