Went to see a neurosurgeon today (had to wait 2 & 1/2 weeks for the appointment). Waited 3 hrs. & 19 minutes to be told (in less than 7 minutes)that a steriod shot would be a good alternative to surgery. If it didn't work, then surgery was the final option. I have been going to a chiropractor sometimes twice a day prior to this visit, and using a head traction unit that he gave me at home. The chiropractic adjustments have helped a great deal, however, the problem is not going away. Can't sleep at night due to pain in left arm and hand, sometimes neck and shoulder pain also. Said bone for surgery could be taken from bone bank or from hip. Should surgery be necessary, is it better to use bone from hip or bone bank? What are the pros and cons of each? Steroid shot is scheduled for a week from now with a different doctor. What are the pros and cons of having a shot? How can I continue an effective rehab and not resort to surgery? What types of excercise or other preventative measures can I take to help my neck, shoulder and arm? Any suggestions out there? What is the recovery time from surgery? I'm at a new job and have little vacation or sick days as yet.
