Hello- I have a 141/2 year old son who likes casual sports [basketball, football] but does not play on a schoool or community team. He's not really enthusiastic with school overall but does attend. I sometimes encounter difficulty with him on school mornings. He complains about not feeling well or being tired. This is due primarily to the fact that he does not always go to bed early enough to be get sufficient sleep. There are times when he does retire earlier to get more sleep however, he says he stills feels tired. Although, he drinks bottled water and my cranberry juice, he favors soda (i.e. Sprite, Squirt or 7-Up) which usually contain high levels of sugar. I am wondering whether he is caught in a vicious cylcle of fatigue due to his consumption of sodas (which can be @1-3 per day). If it is determined that the sodas are contributing to his tiredness, he is willing to eliminate them from his diet and replace them with juice, milk and bottled water. I'm tired of his being tired and if he begins to feel better perhaps, he will become more motivated about attending school DAILY and not finding an excuse to stay home for minor discomforts. I look forward to your response and feedback.
