I prolapsed my L4 - L5 disc on Feb 12 2001 and after two weeks of trying anti-inflamatories, pain killers (including synthetic Morphene)and exercise, there was no improvement and no control of the excrutiating pain. I elected for surgery to remove the piece of disc that had prolapsed and my pain reduced by about 40% by the next day. It is now a month since the operation and I am back at work for three mornings a week, but still on crutches. The pain has abated considerably and I am reducing my medication every few days. Surgery may not be an option for everyone, but in my case the prolapse was so severe there was no option in the end.
